Sum-it-up Sunday: Murder, Mayhem, Moms

The Democrats spent a lot of time at their convention on victims of gun violence. Conspicuously absent: victims of illegal immigrants (Kate Steinle?), emphasis on Chicago (isn’t that the current gun violence capital?), jihadist victims (San Bernardino? Orlando?) and cops (Dallas or Baton Rouge family members anywhere?) I guess that means gun violence is okay if certain groups enact it.

I’ve marveled for years at the wonders of the internet – we all have access to practically everything – borders and physical locations are losing their meaning. Well, not all boundaries are bad.

ISIS (and whatever other brand of jihadi’s) aren’t fighting just one kind of war; they’ve figured out how to wage war in this new environment, and they’re fighting a religious/ideological war electronically. I’m tired of hearing all the effort that our leaders and the Media expend to point out that the jihadist wasn’t actually in communication with a group, so they’re only a LONE WOLF, as though that’s less …embarrassing for the authorities? Still just as deadly. We are fighting a war about countries, and borders, and organizations, instead of the war of ideas that’s being waged against us. We better get our act together soon.

The DNC’s ending theme seemed to be that Donald Trump is a MEAN MAN, but Hillary Clinton is a MOM. I suppose I can accept the comparison – if we can acknowledge that America is the child she’ll have to take care of, and her email issues have already shown a willingness to put the child in danger for her own convenience, sort of like those Moms who leave their kids in a hot car to go shopping. There are all kinds of Moms…

Just saying…

NewAntiquesCoverThis week’s Smashword’s coupon is for “New Antiques”:

Tim Crabtree takes time out of his daily harassment by the local bullies to wonder why his new neighbors have built a forty-foot pole in their backyard. Are they trying to get hit by lightning? If he only knew…

“New Antiques” was yet another go at a little bit of time travel, but I wanted to play with the mundane wonder of being a kid and having to deal with how fantastic reality can be. I saw this one play out visually like a movie as I wrote it.

Use coupon code YY92P to get 67% off the cover price at Smashwords (that’s only 99-cents – such a deal!) – it’s good until August 6th. Here’s the link:

“New Antiques” is also available in the collection – Yet Still Even More Things I Could Get OUT OF MY MIND.

ObsoleteCoverWe’re in the release weekend for “Obsolete”:

When we leave Earth, will we forget what it’s like to be human?

Mr. Omega, the last unmodified man, stands trial for unthinkingly preserving his own life over that of a superior being.

“Obsolete” is a short, speculative fiction. I was wondering – as we FINALLY try to go into space, will our ability to alter ourselves become more cost effective than creating safety devices to protect us from the perils of space travel? And what will be the value of an ORIGINAL man?

“Obsolete” is available in all the usual places, including (but not limited to):

Collection7eBookCoverThis is the LAST DAY of Smashwords’ site-wide Summer/Winter Sale promotion – all of my collections are 50%-off with a coupon (the coupons is listed on the individual page for each book – it’s SSW50 in case you have trouble finding it.)
