Writing Wednesday: Left, Right, Left, Right…

Happy Valentine’s Day…

Goals held steady last week – 3 blog posts, 3+ comments on others’ blogs, stories cycling back to market as quickly as possible. The Next Three ‘Things I Could Get OUT OF MY MIND’ continues its preorder campaign leading up to its February 23rd release, and the Createspace paperback has been proofed and is supposed to be available, but it’s not showing up yet, so I have to figure out why.

Words written last week in Swordsmaster’s continuing revisions: 1619. The novel just crossed 70,000 words.

The revisions of Swordsmaster will not be following the pattern I laid out a few weeks ago in ”Writing Wednesday: A Novel Process” – as I suspected, my method will continually evolve as I continue to revise. That “schedule” of revisions was a good list for knowing what to keep in mind as I make passes through Swordsmaster, and I suspect that I will eventually make those specific, targeted passes once I think I’m nearing completion. But for now, there is so much fleshing out to do, it seems more productive to read-through and add whatever seems glaringly missing in that particular place in the story.

As much as I thought I had moved into the mostly left-brain (analytical) part of the process, the story is still forming in right-brain (creative) mode. As I read through, layers of additional story – subplots, and details I didn’t even consider before are filling in and fleshing out the skeleton I already have (actually, I suppose 60,000-plus words is more than a skeleton, and probably more than I lifeless corpse, as well; I think it’s beginning to BREATHE.)

And so I’m also in the mode of letting the words spill out as they will, and because I can’t delay the continuing growth of the story just so I can find exactly the right word, for now I’m living with all sorts of questionable word choices, and the margin notes that I thought would be disappearing are growing in numbers again.

Left, right, left, right, left, right…

Just saying…

CollectionNext3CoverMy next publication will be another consolidated collection – The Next ‘Three Things I Could Get OUT OF MY MIND.’  (That’s a total of 18 stories from my 4th, 5th, and 6th ‘OUT OF MY MIND’ collections, including some personal favorites, such as “My Brother’s Keeper”, “Cannabis alienus ‘alien dope’”, “The Red Barrens”, “Dempsey’s Debut”, and “The Wolves Will Come.”)

From the blurb for “Mutiny on the Star-Bound”:

MutinyCoverHow would you like to be shanghaied to the stars? Does whether you’re human or not make a difference?

A night at a carnival takes an odd turn for Martin Henshaw, a humble digital mechanic who is tricked into a job with Transgalaxian, tending cybers far from home. But when he finds himself in the middle of a mutiny on the Star-Bound, Martin begins to wonder: who’s rebelling against whom?

The release date is February 23rd, and it’s now available for preorder for a SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL PRICE of 99-cents (that’s 18 stories at LESS THAN 6-CENTS PER STORY – Such a deal!) at several online retailers, including, but not limited to:
