Writing Wednesday: Slow Going Is Still… Going

Last week’s goals:

Made my three blog postings, and exceeded my quota for comments on the the blogs of others.

Cats of War II has been released. My next scheduled release date would be January 17th, but I have so little in the way of short fiction available to publish I may not stick to that schedule.

“Cat’s Paw” (the working title of Herc Tom, Champion of the Empire #8) has finally begun leaving words on the page – all 430 words that I get credit for from last week. I still need to finish it and one other story to make this year’s reduced (because of Swordsmaster) quota. It’ll be tough with only a month left to go…

So –

I finally got the ball of yarn rolling on Herc Tom #8. That list I mentioned in last week’s Writing Wednesday of the current location of the main characters, and then wondering what each might be up to did the trick. A couple of the possibilities started augmenting each other, and I finally had the bare minimum of what I needed to start writing.

The writing was still slow going, but it is often this way at the start of a new tale while I’m getting the feel of the series back. I’m not completely happy with WHERE and HOW I started; if I was like some writers, I would probably get bogged down (like I wasn’t already) in redoing the start already, and the story would spend some time waiting to continue. But for me, once it gets flowing, I have to let it take me where it will while it will.

Again, my routine is disrupted by LIFE (in the guise of the never-ending house repairs), and I only wrote those 430 words over the weekend (I suppose it would have appeared even more pitiful if I’d only managed that production over seven days instead of two, but I know if I had just MADE MYSELF WRITE every day, I would have managed more than 60 words/day.) Hoping the holidays will offer me some extra time to make up for all these days of not writing. Just saying…

The collection of stories 4-7 of my Herc Tom, Champion of the Empire series is out there.CatsOfWar_IIa_Cover Here’s the blurb for the collection:

See how our hero saves the Empire at least three more times in this collection of Herc Tom Champion of the Empire stories 4-7. Includes the stories “Baastard’s Revenge,” “Imperial Purrogative,” “Cats Out of the Bag,” and “Reining Cats and Dogs.”

Swordsmaster – my first novel (which only took me forty-some years to write) is ready for reading.Swordsmaster4

Fate is neither something to run away from, nor something to run towards.

The first bright-eye to be seen on the mountain in living memory, Sandrik didn’t want anyone to think of him as they did the ominous Aurae of legend, so he had worked hard to keep his special abilities hidden. But there was more to Sandrik than even he knew. Now that it was time for him to enter the ancient ruins of Taernfeld and be declared a man, what other changes might he be forced into?
