Writing Wednesday: A Fat Lot I Know About What’s Next

Last Week’s Goals

All blog entries posted on schedule. All returned stories were sent back out to market. Up to this point, I have only been willing to submit to publications that pay professional rates (8-cents per word or greater), but for the for the first time I’ve decided to start submitting to lesser-paying markets – at least until my schedule says I’m supposed to indie-publish something.

I failed to make my weekly and daily quotas again last week – I only wrote on one day, for a total of 145 words of fiction (the start of Swordsmaster #3.)

Simily.co is a new platform I started trying at the end of August. The principle is similar to Kindle Select / Kindle Unlimited, where members (current fee is either free or a reduced amount as they start up) and authors get a small payment for each reader who looks at their story. Small, but steady income…

  1. This is only short fiction
  2. The author’s story doesn’t have to be exclusive (with Amazon’s scheme, you have to be exclusive)
  3. The author retains all rights to their works, and can withdraw them at any time.

I have fourteen stories on the platform. You can check them out here:

Give it a try (as a reader OR a writer.) I’d be glad to hear your thoughts and impressions of both my stories and the site in the comments here – thanx!

Starting Over At Last

Taking breaks from writing is dangerous or me – I took two weeks off, and then it was a struggle to start back up. It might have been easier if I had already started on Swordsmaster  #3 before the break, but ISwordsmaster4 had the bad sense to stop writing before it began. Fortunately, I seem to have finally rolled over that block.

Aside from needing to jumpstart my pen from my hiatus, the other thing that was holding me up was trying to decide whether I’m going to have enough story for  Swordsmaster: Deception and a third book, or just enough for a longer Deception?

I can only see about 20,000 words down the road, and if that’s all there is, it should just be one novel. But once I start writing it, my PANTSER voices may reveal enough story for it to make sense as two books.

But those voices won’t just let me know how long the story is going to be – they insist that I just sit down and write what they tell me until they’re done.

So for now, I’m leaving Swordsmaster: Deception as it is, and starting Swordsmaster #3. Once the draft of #3 is done, I’ll decide how many books I’m really dealing with.

Ah, the joys and mysteries of a PANTSER’s life. Just saying…
