Meandering Monday about Making 2022 a Happy New Year

And a Happy New Year to us all!

I find myself thinking the same thing at the start of this year that I thought at the start of 2021:

“Thank goodness the madness of Covid-19 and the rest is finally over and we can have a normal year.”

I can tell already that this is more wishful than realistic. Even though it appears that Omicron (comparable to the flu, and so mild you might think you have the common cold) will take over from the more deadly versions of Covid, there is still a push to treat ANY version of Covid as the end of the world. We will not return to anything approaching normalcy until we accept that Covid is here to stay, and allow people to live their lives again. And as long as we have various factions who see panic-porn as a way to gain power, who knows when that will be.

If we want this year to be a happy one, we’ll have to make it so ourselves, and each of us should take on what we can to that effect.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. – Reinhold Niebuhr

As is usual for this time of year, I join the masses who put forththeir New Year’s Resolutions in the hope of making this year (and especially MYSELF) better. Here are my non-writing resolutions for 2022 (I will address the writing ones on Writing Wednesday):

  1. Get my weight down to 195 pounds (that will be a loss of 20 pounds.) I’ve done it before, I can do it again.
  2. Music
    1. Complete harmonica lessons (this has been on my list for a couple of years – not as long as the chanter has been on there, but more likely to happen.)
    2. Refresh all my music “skills” (trumpet, keyboard, guitar, karaoke) each week (20 minutes each)
  3. Have a date with MY SIGNIFICANT ONE each week (She has already expressed suspicion about “WHY?”, but hopefully this will eventually feel normal to her.) Since we are exercising an abundance of caution between Covid, constant food recalls and a plethora of food poisoning reports, these dates will be AT HOME for the foreseeable future.)
  4. Home Improvement – 1 project each week until the list is cleared (already created and prioritized, but I suspect it will continue to grow faster than I can clear it.)
  5. Go somewhere on vacation; hopefully this logistics of this will be easier this year than during the last couple of years.)

Hope you’ve put together your own list with hope for the new year (and aren’t yet so jaded that you expect to let them fall by the wayside within the month.)

God bless us, every one, and help us make 2022 a much better year.

Just saying…
