The overall feeling my work on the sequel gives me seems artificial in comparison to the organic original. I find myself experimenting with other people’s methods, just to shake things up. Still, I am incapable (or is it unwilling?) to fully implement the ideas I come across, and even when I think I understand the gist of a method, I still PANTSER it, close my eyes, and feel my own way toward what I think they mean. Writing Wednesday: Why We Write
Last Week’s Goals My three blog entries posted on schedule usual. Two submissions returned from market and I sent them right back out. Heinlein would be so proud… I now have a little over two weeks to go before my next scheduled release day (May 13th), but I still haven’t decided what it will be. … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: Knowing What Works for Me
As I’ve been studying recently, I’ve found a lot of ideas to think about and look for in my own stories, but I haven’t found anyone else’s method that I can duplicate. I find myself taking those alien methods apart and cobbling bits and pieces into my revision process, and that hopefully makes my finished stories better. Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: The Value of Writing Summits
I’m a PANTSER, but I can still learn from PLOTTERS (there is a PANTSER/PLOTTER SPECTRUM, like with autism), and most of us slide between the two, depending on where we are in our personal method on a given project. So I attend summits when they seem interesting. Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: On Being Open to New Approaches
I’m a PANTSER (a discovery writer for those of you who are uninitiated); the words pour out, and I make adjustments after the draft comes out. Despite the fact that most aptitude and personality tests (such as Strengthsfinder) say I’m highly analytical, I seem to have a block when it comes to applying analysis to my writing. I can FEEL whether something works, but it’s difficult (to say the least) to apply other people’s rules to my stories. Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: So Maybe I Should Break My Story Into Scenes
Last Week’s Goals My blog posts made it out on schedule, and I didn’t have any stories return from market, so they’re all out there as they should be. My next scheduled release day is March 18th. The story will be “Getting Personal”, which I have barely started to prepare for publication. I still need … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: A Pantser’s Swirling Cosmos of Interdependencies
Last Week’s Goals All my posts went out on schedule. Two more pieces returned from market and were turned around and submitted to other publications. I wrote on seven days and made my daily quota on five of them. I made my weekly quota with 3,958 words. The draft of Swordsmaster #3 is over 28,000 … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: How This Pantser Is Working On Swordsmaster
Last Week’s Goals My blog entries were posted on schedule. I sent another piece back to market within a day of its return. I wrote on seven days, and made my daily quota on five of them. I made my weekly 3,500 word quota with 3,560 words of fiction. The draft of Swordsmaster #3 has … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: How the First Week of the Year Went
Last Week’s Goals The first official week of 2022 started well. Blog entries were posted on schedule. I returned three pieces back to market within a couple of days. I wrote on six days, and made my daily quota on five of them. I made my weekly quota just barely with 3,560 words of fiction. … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: A Fat Lot I Know About What’s Next
Last Week’s Goals All blog entries posted on schedule. All returned stories were sent back out to market. Up to this point, I have only been willing to submit to publications that pay professional rates (8-cents per word or greater), but for the for the first time I’ve decided to start submitting to lesser-paying markets … Continue reading
