I’m a PANTSER (a discovery writer for those of you who are uninitiated); the words pour out, and I make adjustments after the draft comes out. Despite the fact that most aptitude and personality tests (such as Strengthsfinder) say I’m highly analytical, I seem to have a block when it comes to applying analysis to my writing. I can FEEL whether something works, but it’s difficult (to say the least) to apply other people’s rules to my stories. Continue reading

Writing Wednesday: A Pantser’s Swirling Cosmos of Interdependencies
Last Week’s Goals All my posts went out on schedule. Two more pieces returned from market and were turned around and submitted to other publications. I wrote on seven days and made my daily quota on five of them. I made my weekly quota with 3,958 words. The draft of Swordsmaster #3 is over 28,000 … Continue reading
Meandering Monday about Becoming a Slave to the Lists
I’m a great one for making lists – I’ve been this way for quite some time. I make lists of goals and projects, things that I plan to do. I probably spend too much time just making the lists. When I first started using a planner, I would make a list each night of the … Continue reading
Meandering Monday about Setting and Revisiting Goals
I push this often, especially as we drift closer to the end of the year and the traditional flurry of resolutions. I suggest that – whatever your interests and priorities, that you start laying out your plans for the coming year. Publish them in some fashion – the fact that others know what we SAID … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: How Hard Can It Be to Create an Outline?
Last Week’s Goals All blog entries posted on schedule. All returned stories were sent back out to market. I failed to make my weekly quota with only 1185 words of fiction – this was in three days of writing, and I only made one of those days’ daily quotas. This was on a writing prompt … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: Working on Another Series?
Last Week’s Goals Three blog entries posted as scheduled. I have everything I can reasonably expect back out to market. (There are a couple of stories that are waiting for markets to open.) I finished my rereading of Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles trilogy (The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear; I’ve been … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: Finishing Up My Short Fiction
Last Week’s Goals Three blog entries on posted as scheduled. I managed to get all my available stories out to market, but “Lasting Impression” returned, and so far all the markets remaining for it are temporarily closed (sadly, that was permanently in a couple of cases), so I’m waiting for some openings so I can … Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: Discovering Revisionism
“I don’t know if we should be here. Does he really believe what he’s saying? I think there might be something wrong with him…”
No, m’am, I’m just a PANTSER. Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: Where Is All This Going?
I quite often don’t know where a story is going. It’s actually one of the joys of writing for me – I get to be surprised by and enjoy my stories as much as my readers do. Continue reading
Writing Wednesday: When Stories Refuse to Cooperate
This is one of those examples of LIVE BY DISCOVERY, DIE BY DISCOVERY. It’s probably my fault for being a PANTSER. I suspect that, if I REALLY wanted to be a different writer, I could change my modus operandi and do more planning, but then the creative experience would be totally different, and why would I write? Continue reading
